Update of the Green Fuel Surcharge (GFS)
Dear ZIM customers,
In light of the steep increase of the rates of the cleaner fuel and as a result of additional cost derived from the SECA regulations, we would like to inform you that the GFS surcharge on FAK (Freight All Kind) cargo will be updated as detailed below (**).
The above update shall be implemented as of June 1st, 2018 until further notice and shall be applied on all shipments booked on services passing through emission controlled areas, i.e. North Europe & Baltic, US and Canada base ports. Following are the surcharge levels per TEU:
Mediterranean, Black Sea and Indian subcontinent base ports to North Europe base ports: $60.-
North Europe base ports to Mediterranean, Black Sea and Indian subcontinent base ports: $60.-
Mediterranean, Black Sea and Indian subcontinent base ports to the Baltic & Scandinavian base ports: $100.-
Baltic & Scandinavian base ports to Mediterranean, Black Sea and Indian subcontinent base ports: $100.-
West Africa/India/East Med/West Med base ports to the USA & Canada base ports: $60.-
From USA & Canada base ports to the East Med/West Med/India/West Africa base ports: $60.-
- Above GFS charge is additional to the applicable base freight charge, THC, bunker charges security related charges and PSS charges which are provided in ZIM's Tariff Calculator as well as other charges for additional services, local charges and contingency charges.

These measures are necessary in order to maintain our current levels of service and high reliability. We receive the right to further update the surcharge anytime in the future.

** These rates are unaffected by, and do not affect, any tariff notified, published or filed in accordance with local regulatory requirements. For trades subject to the US Shipping Act or the China Maritime Regulations, application is subject to the publication and effective date requirements of those statutes / regulations. Quotations or mitigation of published surcharges that vary from ZIM’s tariff shall not be binding unless included in a service contract or amendment that has been filed with the Federal Maritime Commission (“FMC”) or the Shanghai Shipping Exchange, as applicable.
