21 ZIM Magazine New Captain Appointed ZIMConstanza Rescues Boat in Distress near the Azores On its way from the USA to the Port of Tarragona in Spain, the crew of the ZIM Constanza received a distress signal from a nearby yacht close to the Azores islands. After coordinating with the marine authorities of Ponta Delgada in the Azores and reporting to ZIM's control center, the ship came to the rescue of the yacht, which had a malfunctioning engine. Petru Baias, captain of the ZIM Constanza, reported that the sailor who had called for help was rescued, exhausted but apparently healthy. The sailor received first aid, food and drink from the crew, and the local rescue authorities permitted the ship to continue to its original destination in Spain with him on board. ZIM Constanza sails the ZCA line on the US East Coast- Mediterranean trade. Help in times of distress at sea is a longstanding maritime tradition and an inseparable part of ZIM's guiding principles. In August of this year, Michael Gregory was appointed captain by CEO Eli Glickman. Captain Michael Gregory, married to Dana, father of Natalie and grandfather of Bar and Shira, has been sailing on ZIM ships as a deck officer since 1994. He has now taken command of the ZIMVirginia, which set sail at the end of August on the Z7S (ZIM Seven Star Express) line from China's Da Chan Bay Port.
