34 ZIM Magazine the market is the ability to solve problems before they occur, with 24/7 response teams around the world ready to solve any cargo problem at any time. Teva's joint service with ZIMonitor is a finalist in the 2017 Logi Pharma Supply Chain Awards in Germany in two categories – Best Supplier Collaboration and Most Innovative Supply Chain Strategy. We of course wish them the best of luck in this prestigious competition. GDP: Protecting Everyone's Health We all want to be sure that the medicine we take has passed rigorous quality control and has been transported and stored at an uncompromising standard, in order to prevent any possibility of receiving damaged or ineffective medication. That is why the GDP (Good Distribution Practice) was created – an internationally-recognized standard which establishes stringent guidelines regarding pharmaceutical distribution and logistics, GDP is designed to ensure appropriate storage and transportation conditions and close monitoring at each stage of transport, from the manufacturer to the final consumer. ZIMonitor has been designed and developed as an excellent tool for pharmaceutical companies that are committed to meeting GDP standards. It has already been recognized and certified by the world's leading carriers as a first-class monitoring solution for its ability to track shipments and provide data and documentation continuously throughout the voyage. Recently, ZIMonitor containers became the first in the world to be upgraded to meet the latest pharmaceutical transport regulations. These include a directive by the European Commission, adopted and used worldwide, stating that the calibration procedure for refrigeration units' temperature control sensors must be performed and documented at defined intervals. By upgrading the controller software of all Carrier PrimeLINE refrigeration units and installing the DataLINE software developed by Carrier to decrypt the containers' controller data, ZIMonitor containers will meet the required temperature calibration requirements. Incidents & Reactions As mentioned above, one of ZIMonitor's primary advantages is its quick response to alerts, with its teams able to solve a wide variety of potential technical issues. The lightning-fast response time of the ZIM staff has already saved millions of dollars' worth of cargo from irreversible damage. "ZIM went a long way to develop the right combination between the technical container and the service around it, and it is proving itself. It gives us comfort to know that if something happens, we will know about it, and more than that, that our carrier will solve the issue even before we know it," says Yoram Eshel, Teva's Head of Global Transportation and Logistics. ZIM's response teams and the Global Reefer Unit headed by manager Michael Shvarzman are very familiar with several crisis scenarios in which an alert on the response team's computer screen quickly becomes a race against time to prevent possible cargo damage – fortunately, these scenarios always have a happy ending.
