A New Era
The collaborations between Zim and the Ofer Brothers Group began as early as the 1960s.
Over the years, the Ofer Brothers Group grew to become a giant company with far-reaching
influence in the shipping industry. The Ofer Brothers Group became the controlling owner
in the Israel Corporation, Zim’s parent company. In 1999, the company’s original name - Zim ‫ על מנת לשקף את אופי פעילותה הגלובלית של‬,”‫ ל”צים שירותי ספנות משולבים‬1999‫ב־‬
Israel Navigation Company – was changed to Zim Integrated Shipping Services, to reflect
the company’s global reach. When Zim completed privatization and all government shares
were sold, the Ofer Brothers Group became Zim’s controlling owner.
In April 2002, a festive reception ceremony was held in Haifa’s port for the Zim
Mediterranean – the first of 6 container ships built in Korea. Photos: Sammy Ofer (on
