Captain Eliezer Aczel Captain Edmond Sagi
Born in Budapest, Aczel participated in covert operations for the Allies Sagi, nicknamed “The Elder Captain,” served in the Austro-Hungarian
while commanding Atid cargo ships during WWII – including smuggling members navy and took command of Har Carmel in 1934. In 1948, he was put in command
of the Greek government in exile to safety. He joined Zim at the very beginning and of the Negbah and continued to command Zim ships for many years. His son, Uri,
became captain of several passenger ships. His portrait adorned the company’s early followed in his footsteps and built an impressive career of his own, both at sea and as
advertising brochures. a senior manager in Zim.

George Loinger
A veteran of the French underground who saved refugee children during Prodromos Papavasiliou (“Papa”)
World War II, George Loinger was personally asked by David Ben-Gurion to establish Papavasiliou, nicknamed “Papa,” was born in 1919 near Famagusta.

Zim as the first Israeli captain of the Kedmah. He then went on to direct Israel’s Naval endeavors. In 1938, he was appointed director of the Haifa Naval Academy. During
Academy and to become the first director of the Ashdod port. World War II, he commanded British navy battleships with distinction. In 1945, he
joined Zim, first as a captain and afterward as a superintendent of ship construction
and company representative in Spain and London.
