The Digital Sea
After weathering tumultuous financial storms, Zim
began to sail into the uncharted seas of the future. In ‫ בשנת‬.‫צים להפליג אל המרחבים הלא נודעים של העתיד‬
2017, a new captain took the helm. CEO Eli Glickman,
no stranger to seafaring, assumed the mantle of
leadership of the company, which was still wounded
from the economic crises and fighting for its survival.
Aware of the urgent need for a new spirit and
dramatic momentum, Glickman quickly led several

company and create a veritable revolution in the
way the company worked. Zim was among the only
shipping companies that had remained independent
and not joined the global alliances that coalesced
in the wake of the great crisis. Alongside the effort

in 2018 – in a step that surprised many in the
business world and the industry media – a strategic
partnership was announced between Zim and the
two shipping giants, Maersk and MSC, in the trade
route between Asia and the East Coast of the United
States. This was only the beginning. The cooperation
expanded to additional trade routes and granted Zim
dramatic operational advantages, which improved
the company’s standing and steadied it on the route
to recovery and success .
Also realizing that Zim’s competitive edge in an
increasingly competitive world would necessitate
out-of-the-box thinking, Glickman led a number of
targeted measures. He prioritized human resources,
seeing this as an essential component for the
success and resilience of the company, and strove
to foster a sense of pride and belonging among Zim
staff around the world; he redefined the business
focus of the company, emphasizing profitability
as opposed to the volume of freight; at the same
time, he led investments in sales and customer
service, as well as innovative projects that would
harness the advantages of “start-up nation” Israel,
offering the company’s clients innovative services
and advanced digital tools. New Vision and Values
were launched, to enhance and implement these
steps. And let us not forget the personal and human
dimension, a valuable and vastly important asset
since the company’s early days – that same unique
recipe that continues to march Zim into the future.
