Many members of the underground immigration movements joined Zim, among them the legendary captain of the Exodus, Yitzhak “Ike” Aharonovich. Ike, despite his boyish looks, was an
experienced veteran who took command of a number of Zim’s first ships. He is pictured here in one of the company’s early advertisements.

The Jerusalem was one of the first ships purchased by Zim. Its name was changed in 1956 to Aliya.
