The dramatic launching of the reparations ship Kesarya from the Jos L. Meyer shipyard
on the Ems River in Papenburg, Germany, August 1958. The Kesarya was a general cargo
ship and went on to become a training ship for both sailors and officers. Years later, the
ship was renamed Dado in honor of David Elazar, who became the Chairman of Zim’s
Board of Directors in 1974.

The bulk carrier Mezada (originally spelled Massada; picture on the next page) was
launched in May 1960 at the Deutsche Werft shipyards in Hamburg. The “Launching
Lady” was Lea Pinkas, wife of the Transportation Minister.
