In the Port of Haifa, the
ZIMQingdao
was loaded
with out-of-gauge cargo weighing more than 140
tons – one of the heaviest loadings ever. This
was a transformer specially produced by Von
Roll was destined for the Port of NewYork.
ZIM
Qingdao
operates on ZIM's longstanding ZCA
service, which has served the USA for decades,
and which was recently upgraded to improve
customer service. The unit was loaded onto the ship using a special crane at the Carmel Terminal of Haifa Port. Transportation
of this outsize cargo was coordinated with ZIM’s Special Cargo Unit, which oversaw the project from the planning stage till
its successful arrival at its destination.
Out-of-Gauge Cargo
Earlier this year, as part of its efforts to ship special cargo from the Port of
Haifa, the ZIM Monaco loaded two desalination units weighing 44 tons each.
On another voyage in June, the ZIMMonaco shipped cooling units that weighed around
30 tons. All the above are part of continuous activitities of A1’s Special Cargo Team.
