As part of the activities for employees in India,
workshops for employees’ children were
organized in August 2014. The workshops
were aimed at children aged 4-12, and were
managed by the Human Resources team. The
children enjoyed arts and crafts, such as making
bookmarks, picture frames and other paper items
for daily use at home and at school. The workshop
was conducted over a weekend to enable all
employees and their children to attend. The
participation level was high and the children
enjoyed the learning and creative experience
very much. At the end of the session, each child
received a gift and craft materials.
The employees’ children were excited and happy
to learn paper craft techniques, and the entire
event received fantastic responses and was appreciated by employees and their families.
The season of celebration at Port Klang: The Chinese New Year,
Eid al Fitr, Diwali and Christmas were marked by a joint event of
celebration together, where the joy could be shared among the
entire team of employees, from all backgrounds and faiths. At
the joint celebration, wonderful refreshments were served and there were fabulous
flower decorations. The team members arranged ‘role swapping’ – the Chinese wore
Punjabi clothing for the Diwali festival, whose origins are in India, the Malays wore
the Chinese traditional dress, the Cheongsam for the Chinese New Year, and the
Indians wore the traditional Malay dress, the BajuKurung for the Eid al Fitr celebration,
known here as the Hari Raya. Towards the of the end of the year, the office staff
arranges a gift exchange ceremony. A ‘wish list’ is prepared (of reasonably priced
items) and despite the heavy workload at the office, all employees, from management
to clerks, find time to purchase gifts and hand them out. In addition, the office has
a tradition of noting employees’ birthdays by giving a personal gift and holding a
joint ‘tea party’to celebrate all the birthdays of the quarter.
